Sexuality in the Workplace

The results of a study that shows there has been a shift in employers thinking around issues of sexual orientation in the workplace is about to be launched by the gay rights organisation Stonewall.

Findings follow on from the increasing level of importance that the government, employers themselves, trade unions, activists and equality groups from various sectors have placed on improved diversity in the workplaces over the past 10 years. There are also many more rights and laws available to deter, prevent and deal with incidences of bullying in the workplace and other discriminatory practice such as being fired, denied career development opportunities, or simply not being able to gain employment in the first place.

Joining Stonewall at the event on Thursday 3rd July 2008 will be Secretary of State for Business – John Hutton. “Peak Performance” is described as a pionneering publication that highlights the fact that it’s now easier to come out or be out about one’s sexuality at work, and suggests that people even perform better when they can be open about it what once was considered a private matter.

Peak Performance launches this Thursday 3rd July 4.30-6.30 pm at IBM, 76/78 Upper Ground, Southbank, SE1 9PZ (nearest tube is Waterloo).  Book your place via Gary Nunn at Stonewall gary.nunn@stonewall.org.uk

LGBT Jobs will be reporting on the event and providing more information on the report soon. You can also find more details on Stonewall’s Website at http://www.stonewall.org.uk
